Watch Solange, Glass Animals, D.R.A.M., Fantastic Negrito, And Others Speak Up For Causes At “GOODFest”

GOOD and Pixel, phone by Google, officially wrapped GOODFest—a five-city livestreamed festival for five causes that took place across the U.S. The festival included three 2017 Grammy-nominated artists—Solange Knowles, D.R.A.M., and Fantastic Negrito—as well as 2016 breakthrough artists like Glass Animals, Dawn Richard, and Bilal.
“There is an uprising happening that is pouring into politics and is pouring into people,” said Dawn Richard. “There are artists coming together saying: we have power and we’re going to use it to unify people to create change. That’s the power of music.”
GOOD, a global media brand and social impact company, and Pixel, phone by Google, created “GOODFest,” a modern, livestreamed music festival featuring “5 Shows. 5 Cities. 5 Causes.” Global digital agency Essence booked the project with GOOD. The Pixel was used to capture photos and behind-the-scenes content, including a “Pixel rig” that crowd surfed during the shows. GOODFest aimed to redefine the “benefit” concert by connecting artists and people around causes through music, culture, and technology.
“GOODFest was about inspiring optimism and social action during times of adversity,” said Casey Caplowe, Cofounder of GOOD. “Google and Essence believed in the intersection of culture, technology, and community, and were supportive of SpecialGuest and GOOD’s endeavor to create a livestream festival for social good.”
GOOD hired Brooklyn-based SpecialGuest as a key creative partner, leading all video content surrounding the festival, including livestreaming each event on YouTube Live and Facebook Live, capturing 360 video, as well as collaborating on creative direction. SpecialGuest also concepted, designed and developed the “Pixel rig” at the festival that gave attendees the chance to capture themselves in the framing of the GOOD event. “GOODFest has been a mashup of creativity and optimism,” says SpecialGuest founder and creative lead, Aaron Duffy. “It was good for our souls as makers and you could feel that same sentiment across the performers, activists and audience. It was an honor to be part of it.”
The five-city tour visited Brooklyn, New Orleans, Seattle, Oakland, and Los Angeles with shows supporting DonorsChoose.org, Equal Justice Initiative, 350 Seattle, Ella Baker Center, Son of a Saint, and the Southern Poverty Law Center. More info on the themes and causes at www.goodfest.live.
